Saturday Night Live

Some 2,000 Saturday nights have passed since I’ve been playing steel guitar, and I’ve worked live gigs on almost all of them. I never saw “Saturday Night Live” or ”The Mary Tyler Moore Show” until they went into syndication. I never had a date on Saturday night unless it was at the gig. I missed a lot of televised big time sporting events.

The most recent Saturday I had off was Jan 9th of this year, because it snowed and the gig was cancelled. Before that I took 4-8-06 off for family business. I also had 12-24-05 off because it was Christmas Eve, but I have played previous Christmas Eves. I did one on Broadway one year, and we had a forlorn-looking smattering of people in the place, let me tell you.

As the song says, Saturday night can be the loneliest night of the week, but I’ve always been pretty busy.
